The fall Oktoberfest was an outstanding success!!! The weather cooperated to provide a picture perfect weekend. The grounds at the German Central property were packed with people enjoying the music, food, cultural entertainment and, of course, the German beer. It was so nice to see the park filled with the young and old, family and friends having a great time on a beautiful fall day.

This year we added children's events to the schedule at our Oktoberfest. A big Thank You to Irmgard who provided crafts for the kids to enjoy. There was a bouncy house in the grassy area next to the Krueger Pavilion. The street circus performers included the kids with fun activities. They loved learning how to juggle and twirl plates on sticks. A balloon artist was on hand to make awesome balloon hats and animals. We also had a glitter tattoo artist and two face painters to make for a fun filled weekend. One of the kids remarked, "This is the most fun I've had all summer!!!" The kid's area was so successful, we are planning to expand it for our next Oktoberfest... WHAT FUN!!!

We are kicking off the New Year in a spectacular way!!! The New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance was a door-busting event. Renate sold the place out with over 285 people attending. The meal was served from the Main Hall with Prime Rib and Schnitzel as the main courses. The Grand Ballroom was filled with dancers reminiscent of years gone by. Members of the band commented that it was like looking out on the dance floor from back in the 70’s when we packed the Ballroom for every dance. Our decorating committee of Bridgette, Hannelore, Lori, Karin, and Joyce had everything looking so beautiful.

Just around the corner are the German Central Fish Fries. They will be here before we know it. The Fish Fries are held on Fridays during the Lenten Season. Check the German Central Event Schedule for specific dates. The doors are open from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The reasonably priced menu attracts people from all over the greater Cleveland area year after year. Come and see what keeps them coming back to German Central. We are going to need LOTS of volunteers to make them successful again this year. As our President, Leonhard May reminds us, “Nothing is possible without the continued support of our members who volunteer their time so freely”. We thank you for helping to promote the German Central Culture and to make the necessary improvements to our beautiful property that are taking place everywhere you look.
At the Christmas Party this year, awards were given to outstanding young volunteers that have given of their time and talent to German Central. Jimmy was the key person heading up these awards and presented several of our young people with plaques to express our thanks and appreciation for all of their contributions as we look forward to the next generation of leaders for our Foundation.
Our Club continues to do well financially. The bar, which is managed by Chuck and Matthias, continues to be very profitable. They feel it is directly related to all the weddings and rentals that have taken place last year and that are booked well into 2017 and 2018. Andrea has done an outstanding job! She makes my job as treasurer so much easier with all the rental revenue that keeps coming in to help us meet our obligations each month.

Our clubs are always welcoming any new members.
* The Line Dancers, instructed by Joyce and Marilyn, meet every Thursday at 7:00 PM in the Main Hall.
* Zumba classes, instructed by Cassie, are held Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM in the Main Hall.
*The Chess Club, hosted by Jimmy, meets on Tuesday at 8:00 PM in the Rathskeller. He has players that come from all over the state to compete in the chess tournaments he holds.
*Fun Night is Wednesday at 7:00 PM in the Rathskeller.
*The Frauengruppe disbanded and has reformed once again. Kornelius would like to see all of you young ladies on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 1:00 PM.
When we added the handicapped restroom to the Main Hall last year, a lovely antique cabinet was discovered hiding in the back storage area. We are still looking for someone to help us restore this treasure of our heritage. If you know of someone that can make the repairs, please let us know. Donations are needed to make the restoration happen and will be greatly appreciated. Please contact the treasurer, Marilyn at 440-570-1143 to make any donation you can to help us restore this lovely old cabinet to its former glory.
Plan to attend the Brat Night on February 10 at 5:30 PM. Tell your friends - bring your friends - bring yourselves! Hope to see everyone in the Rathskeller for some good food and a good time.
